PRESENTATION OUTLINE

GILDED AGE

Anthony Moore

Gilded Age
The gilded age was s time when new inventions led to rapid industrial growth. Skyscrapers and other new ideas were introduced and workers flooded the streets to build it all.

Women Suffrage
What does the banner say at the that people are holding up? It looks like the people are mainly women and are having a parade. It is for women's right to vote because of what they are wearing. This took place in New York in 1912. My conclusion is that this is a women suffragist parade with women of all different age groups marching for their right to vote

Child Labor
The adults must know this is dangerous so why are they allowing it? The children in this photo seem to be working on a mill and are too small to se the top. This seems very dangerous to be standing on a metal rod bare foot where they can slip and fall. My conclusion is that this photo represents the dangerous conditions children were in when they were working in factories.

Segregation
This picture was straightforward and didn't question me. This photo looks like it is mainly African American children in school. The schools were separated between whites and blacks as well as bathrooms, restaurants, and water fountains. All with the whites side of things being better. This school is in West Virginia. My conclusion is that this is an all black school in West Virginia that shows the segregation of schools during the late 1800s and early 1900s.

Immigration
This is a political cartoon showing the American Government not allowing immigrants entrance into the United States. Based on the way the immigrant was drawn, it can show Americans fear of immigrants. The immigrant is carrying what symbolizes poverty and disease approaching Uncle Sam. My conclusion is that the Americans were afraid of Immigrants because of how different they were.

Urbanization
This is a picture of tenements in the 1800s. Based on the picture, I can tell that the rooms must have been crowded and tried to fit as many family in there as possible. Each rooms seemed to have two windows and sometimes one. My conclusion is that living as a middle class worker during he guilded age was hard and crowded.
