This was because of Canada's strong economy and government policy's.
Past Immigrants
In the following 50 years since Canada has been a country, there was a major effort to populate the prairie regions with settlers.
Immigration agents went to Europe and the the U.S.A to lure settlers.
Where did the settlers come from?
Most of the settlers from 1901-1911 came from Europe, Russia, Asia, and the U.S.A.
Big City Bound
Between 2001 and 2006, about 1.2 million people immigrated to Canada. Half of them moved to Ontario, around 15%went to Quebec, and another 15% went to BC.
