WHAT IS A HABITAT?

  • A place where an animal or plant has a special home
  • In the habitat, an animal needs:
  • Water
  • Cover
  • Food and a place to raise young

EXAMPLES OF A HABITAT

  • If you talk about an animal's house, it is called a neighborhood
  • An animal's habitat is a special place that is like a human's house
  • For example, a pengin lives in Antartica because it's habitat is used to the cold
  • A seastar lives underwater and on land because it could eat and breathe
  • A racoon loves on land mostly inside of trees for protection of a safe place to raise young

WHAT IS AN ECOSYSTEM?

  • A group of animals, plants, and other living things
  • They all live together in the same area
  • Everything does not have to be living
  • There is not a limit to an ecosystem's size
  • Each ecosystem has it's own special role to play

  • Grassland

  • Tropical Rainforest

A HEALTHY ECOSYSTEM

  • For a healthy ecosystem you need:
  • Water
  • Plants
  • Food
  • Shelter

  • The forests are a very healthy ecosystem because:
  • It has a lot of shelter
  • There is a lot of food
  • There is living plants and animals
  • There are places that animals could make young

  • WHAT I LEARNED:
  • A habitat is a special place where animals have what they need
  • Animals need food, shelter, and a place to raise their young
  • An ecosystem is where living and nonliving things are in the same area
