• He and his two brothers split up the world and Hades became the God of the Underworld.
• His two brothers are Zeus and Posiden.
• Zeus became the God of the Upper World.
• Posiden became God of the Sea .

CLAIM TO FAME

• Hades is the god of the Underworld.
• There is a temple devoted to him and Persephone.
• The temple is called Necromanteion.
• Located on the banks of the Acheron river in Epirus.
• Was believed to be the door to Hades, realm of the dead.

ABOUT HADES

• He is a greedy, terrible god.
• His wife is Persephone.
• He abducted her.
• She is now queen of the Underworld for six months a year.

MAJOR STORY

• Hades was Demeter's sister.
• Demeter's daughter was named Perephone.
• One day Persephone was outside playing.
• Hades appeared from a crack in the earth and captured her.
• He tried to win her affection in Underworld.

MAJOR STORY (CONT.)

• Hades eventually tricked her into eating a pomegranate.
• Once you eat anything from the underworld, you have to stay there forever.
• She came back up to Mount Olympus and there was a deal made.
• It's believed that Persephone spends 6 months a year in the Underworld.
