EDUCATION AND CAREER

In 1963 American President JFK was assassinated, this seems like it wouldn't happen today but what if I told you it has. The lost of JFK left most Americans feeling distraught. If the average American didn’t feel distraught due to an influential leader dying they felt it because it affected the way they’re life because whoever was to come into power created the environment they lived in. President of Haiti, Jovenel Mouïse was assassinated in July of 2021

President Moïse founded the Haitian Energy Company then would become a candidate for president and would try to use agriculture as a way to have Haiti’s economy thrive. In 2016 Moïse won the election. This was met with lots of controversy; most Haitians weren’t happy with him and this was understandable considering the economic fall during his term. Many gangs controlled territory during his term; this would only get worse after his assasination. Haiti's government has been in talks of bringing a criminal code to stop the gang problems. Criminal force code has been postponed for June 24 of 2024. The code being postponed leaves time for these gangs to infiltrate Haitians neighborhoods giving them no choice but to leave.

270,000 that is how many people died in Haiti's 2010 earthquake. You may think about the floods we have in North Carolina and how it affects people's homes and that eventually gets to them emotionally.

12 years later after Haiti's earthquake many people who survived are now going through these traumas again with the influx of floods, earthquakes and toxic waste. In January of this year Haiti was dealing with a cold front and rain came down for 36 hours in multiple banks namely Les Trois Rivières the Grande Rivière du Nord and Port-Margot. The extreme flooding led to destruction of power plant and bridges leavening some areas surrounded by water. 2,578 houses had been destroyed and 2,500 families needing a home. The domains that got hit by this flood were picking up the pieces from dealing with the earthquake from august of 2021. The earthquake had more than 2,220 deaths ,over 10,000 injured and 130,000 homes collapsed. Two days after this they had a tropical storm known as storm Grace.

Grace was anything but graceful grace made the soils in the slope become disturbed causing a landslide. Port-au-Prince is Haiti's capital but just 4 miles away people are being exposed to toxic waste. This place is Cité Soleil. In Cité Soleil they are dealing with the burning of toxic waste. The toxins stay inside the fumes causing metals and organic pollutants to get within the lungs . Marcos Orellana states “Lack of maintenance of drainage canals overflowing with waste”.

Cité Soleil is also a favorite place amongst gangs

Over 100 people in September of 2022 have been killed due to violence. The gang typically have machine guns and machetes. Haitians are being forced out of their home by gangs. The gangs got into the administrative center of the capital. The places that were once safe then became home for gang warfare. The children of Haiti are the main victims of this violence. Teens are young as 12 are used as spies for their enemy gang and end up killing are being killed in the process. Women and girls are SA for warfare an babies were being burned.

Racism
Racism has negatively affected the lives of Haiti immigrants. A lot of Black immigrants in Haiti have to face racism in Mexico, and unequal treatment from the U.S government. So many Haiti immigrants left there home to live a better life in Latin America, but instead had to face racism.

Discrimination

For so many reasons Haiti immigrants are discriminated against because of how they look or even what they do. Discrimination against Black people is really intense therefore we need to do something about it. Some examples of why Haiti is discriminated against is because of their race and nationality.
