WHAT IS A REVOLUTION?

A revolution is when someone tries or does overthrow government or social order with a new system.

HAITIAN REVOLUTION

  • Was inspired or influenced by the French and American Revolution
  • Began as a revolt
  • Free blacks wanted citizenship but French colonists denied it.
  • Independence movement led by Toussaint L'Ouverture.
  • Independence movement for freedom.

MEXICAN REVOLUTION

  • Also influenced by the Enlightenment and French Revolution.
  • independence movement was led by the mestizos.
  • Independence movement for liberty and equality
  • Began as an rebellion
  • Padre Miguel y Costilla Hidalgo was a major figure in this revolution

SOUTH AMERICA REVOLUTION

  • independence movements were inspired by the Enlightenment and the American and French Revolutions.
  • The ideas of liberty and equality inspired independence
  • creoles led the majority of the independence movements
  • Simon Bolivar and Jose de San Martin were two major figures in this independence.
