WHO WAS LIU BANG?

• Founder and first emperor of Han Dynasty
• Ruled China from 202-195 BC
• Emerged from Peasant class

Liu Bang called the new dynasty "Han" because it was named after his homeland.

The "martial emperor" Han Wudi placed Confucian values into their educational system.

HAN WUDI'S FOREIGN POLICY

• Defensive foreign policy
• China did not aggressively invade countries
• Began period of retrenchment

Some of the problems small land owners faced was that they were always going into debt and then have to sell their land to the wealthy.

• Believed all land belonged to the empire
• Took all the land for the empire
