LIU BANG

• First emporor of Han Dynasty
• Later known as Emporor Gaozo
• Overthrew the Qin Dynasty in 206 BC with Xiang Yu
• Attacked the capital, Xianyang, and destroyed the Dynasty to create his own
• Liu Bang named the new dynasty after his homeland, Hanzhong

HAN WUDI

• Han Wudi ruled after the death of Liu Bang as the second emperor
• His new educational system established confucianism
• His military strategies included more conquesting then defending
• He dismissed foreign policies to expand the empire
• He also attacked to show the power of the Han Dynasty

LANDOWNER PROBLEMS

• Small Chinese landowners did not make enough money to pay off their land
• They had to sell their land to larger landowners to make money
• Wang Mang, emperor of the Xin Dynasty combated this by equalizing
• He distributed land equally following classic Confucious principles
• The economy fell due to commoners' property values declining
