Jacob Lawrence

  • Jacob Lawrence was born on the 7th of September 1917.
  • In 1942 he was drafted into the U.S Coast Guard.
  • He was awarded the U.S National medal of the Arts in 1990.

Langston Hughes

  • Born Feb. 1, 1902, in Joplin, Mo.
  • After college, Hughes returned to New York
  • Hughes found the idea of Communism interesting as an alternative to segregation. 

Louis Armstrong

  • Louis Armstrong was born in raised in New Orleans, Louisiana
  • In 1912 he shot his stepfathers pistol into the air and was arrested
  • Between 1925 and 1928, Armstrong cut more than 60 records with his band
  • He got mixed up in a mob.

Al Capone

  • Born in 1899 in Brooklyn, New York, to poor immigrant parents
  • the most infamous gangster in American history
  • Capone’s father was as a barber, and his mother was a seamstress
  • had 1 son his name was Albert francis Capone
