HISTORY

  • Located on a 31 acre plot called Soldiers Field in Allston, Ma
  • The land was donated by Henry Lee Higginson in 1890
  • Has a similar shape to the Panathenaic Stadium in Greece
  • Cost $310,000 to build ($8.14 million in 2014 dollars)
  • Home to the Harvard Football and Lacrosse teams

ROMAN ARCHITECTURE

  • Harvard Stadium is a modern example of Roman Architecture
  • Arches on the exterior of the stadium
  • Columns on the interior of the stadium
  • Arches and Columns were prominent in Roman Architecture
  • Draws similarities to the Colosseum in Rome

QUICK FACTS

  • Capacity is 30,323 spectators
  • Hosted a few pre-season soccer games for the 1984 Olympics
  • Home of the Boston Cannons, Pro Lacrosse team
  • Bob Marley had a concert here in 1979
  • Had an ivy exterior until it was removed in 2006
