  • Hawaii’s nickname is the “Aloha State.” The word “aloha” is derived from the Polynesian word: “alofa,” whose meanings include “love,” “compassion” and “mercy.” Aloha is used both as “hello” and “goodbye.”

  • Residents of the “Aloha” State live longer than those of any other U.S. state, with a life expectancy 81.5 years, almost three years longer than the country’s average of 78.8.
