HAYMARKET SQUARE RIOT

WHEN WHERE AND WHAT

  • There were protestors in haymarket when a protestor threw a bomb and started a riot.
  • The protest was over the horrendous working conditions, low wages and amount of work time given.
  • It was unclear if who threw the bomb.

REPERCUSSIONS OF THE EVENT

  • In August of 1886, eight men were charged with causing the riot and the Bombing after there was no clear evidence they were even there.
  • After all eight were sentenced to death, 4 took their death penalty 3 escaped death but spent their lives in prison and 1 committed suicide the eve of his execution.
