H A Z E

IS A FOUR-LETTER WORD
The annual haze from Sumatra hit Singapore in a big way this year.

Rather than cuss, I found some inspiration to use Haiku Deck to describe it.

IS FOR THE

HEAT AND HUMOUR THE HAZE CREATES
It is warmer than usual as the particulate matter traps the tropical heat in the air.

Fortunately, there is some respite on Twitter and Facebook as some Singaporeans go online to tickle your funny bone.

Don't laugh too much though. You might swallow too much smoke.

IS FOR THE

ANGER AND APATHY ON DIFFERENT SIDES
Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering. Or so Yoda proclaimed.

In our case, it might be the reverse.

We suffer the consequences of indiscriminate burning in Sumatra.

We hate our neighbour for it and get angry with our leaders for not flexing some muscle.

IS FOR THE

ZOMBIE-LIKE FOLLOWING THE NEA SITE GETS
The National Environment Agency (NEA) website is as hard hit as the people.

Folks seem intent on refreshing page for the haze Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) count so that they have something to complain about.

If the site goes down or the numbers get edited (from higher to lower), that is more fuel for the fire. And where there is fire there is smoke.

IS FOR EVERYONE

AND EVERYTHING THE HAZE AFFECTS
It seems as if the whole country is talking about just one thing.

If I were a politician, I'd leverage on that.

As an educator, I take advantage of the many teachable moments.

I wonder what else we can do...
