DEFINITION & INFO

  • Influenza: contagious respiratory illness.
  • Info: symptoms start 1-4 days after entering body.
  • Some w. no symptoms.
  • Can last from 2 days - 2 weeks.
  • 80-90% of deaths: 65yrs and up.

SYMPTOMS

  • Fever
  • Cough
  • Sore throat
  • Muscle aches and headaches
  • Fatigue
  • Runny nose

WHO IS SUSCEPTIBLE?

  • Most common in 65yrs and up, people with asthma, diabetes, heart disease, pregnant women and young kids.

HOWS IT SPREAD IN THE HOSPITAL?

EQUIPMENT AND HANDWASHING

PREVENTION

  • Get a yearly flu shot.
  • Avoid sick people.
  • Cover nose/mouth.
  • Disinfect.

TREATMENT IN THE HOSPITAL

DON'T LET IT GET TO PNEUMONIA. ANTIVIRAL DRUGS
