HEALTHY SNACKS FOR TEENAGERS

What is snacking?
It is eating small meals or a small item in between our three main meals.

Teenagers need snacks in order to get all the nutrients they need for growth and development.

Snacking on healthy foods can help to keep your energy high and your mind focused and it is also a way to satisfy hunger in between your three daily meals.

Choose your snacks carefully!

Why do we eat healthy snacks?
As we said before we need to eat them to keep daily required levels of vitamins and minerals at the normal, required daily level.

Also to avoid eating foods that may damage our body when we get cravings between meals

It is proven that teenagers who eat regular meals and choose healthy snacks are less likely to over eat or gain weight.

How often should we snack?
As we mentionedsnacking will help to control cravings that may lead to over eating and weight gain,therefore it is healthy to snack in between meals.

Teenagers can also snack at night provided they pick foods such as fruit and vegetables that will not increase their bodies'
sugar level that may interfere with their sleeping habits.

What are examples of healthy snacks?

WHY DO WE NOT EAT HEALTHY SNACKS?

  • Junk food has become easily availble.
  • Advertisements have made these junk foods very appealing to teenagers.
  • Vending machines have spread around schools and streets.
  • Teenagers want things done fast and do not want to bother with thinking
  • And having to prepare for themselves healthy snacks

WHAT ARE EATING TIPS TO IMPROVE YOUR DIET?

  • Do the 50% rule at luch or dinner fill have of your plait with fruits and/or vegetables.
  • Don't drink sodas and don't eat a lot of unhealthy food
  • Give yourself a little pinch everytime you think about unhealthy food.
  • Eat an apple a day keeps the doctor away
  • Look for a vending machine with healthy foods

CHANGE YOUR EATING ENVIRONMENT.

  • Get the school to bring more healthy food
  • Ask your school to lower the prices of healthy food
  • Get involved at home with grocery shopping and cooking

In conclusion,try to eat healthy food and when you feel hungry between your three meals eat a healthy snack.
