HEART MURMURS

Extra or abnormal sound during heart beat, can be many different tones.

TWO MAIN TYPES

• Innocent- not caused by heart problems, harmless
• Abnormal-heart problems, may need treatment

CAUSES

• Hole in heart
• Leaking or malfunctioning valve
• Children- from congenital heart defects
• Adults- from heart valve disease

CONTIBUTING FACTORS

• Age
• Infection
• Disease

Treatment:
Most doesn't need to be treated just monitord. But a few need medication or surgery

MEDICATION

• Anticoagulants-prevent blood clots
• Antiarrhythmics- control irregular heartbeat
• Vasodilators- relax and open blood vessels
• Diuretics- remove extra salt and water from body
• Prophylactic- reduce risk of infection

Surgery:
Correct congenital heart defects.

Correct types of heart valve disease.
