A is for alienated. Mildred, Guy's wife, is pretty much alienated from everyone except Guy. She is so alienated that she thinks of people on the television as her family.

B is for books. Books are illegal for people to have. All books that are found are burned. Books make people think which is not allowed in this society

C is for Clarisse. Clarisse is considered odd because she has the ability to think. When she meets Guy she starts to open up his mind and he starts to think. She turns on his light.

D is for distracted. Guy is very distracted after talking to Clarisse. He starts to question if he is actually happy with his life.

E is for education. The education system is completely different. Children don't learn history and they learn very little English. They get cold, hard facts. They are not allowed to think.

F is for firefighter. Guy is a firefighter. Firefighters don't put out fires anymore. Now, firefighters set fires to get rid of books.
