Heat and Thermodynamics

Conduction

  • physics is about forms of energy such as light, heat or electricity.
  • Heat conduction takes place between two object in contact with each other.
  • the heat energy travels from the hot point to a cold point.

Convection

  • the movement caused within a fluid by the tendency of hotter and therefore less dense material to rise, and colder, denser material to sink under the influence of gravity, which consequently results in transfer of heat.
  • Physics. the transfer of heat by the circulation or movement of the heated parts of a liquid or gas.
  • Meteorology. the vertical transport of atmospheric properties, especially upward

Radiation

  • the emission of energy as electromagnetic waves or as moving subatomic particles, especially high-energy particles that cause ionization.
  • divergence out from a central point, in particular evolution from an ancestral animal or plant group into a variety of new forms.
  • the complete process in which energy is emitted by one body, transmitted through an intervening medium or space, and absorbed by another body.

2nd law of thermodynamics

  • In any cyclic process the entropy will either increase or remain the same. Entropy: a state variable whose change is defined for a reversible process at T where Q is the heat absorbed. Entropy: a measure of the amount of energy which is unavailable to do work.

3rd law of thermodynamics

  • regarding the properties of systems in equilibrium at absolute zero temperature: The entropy of a perfect crystal at absolute zero is exactly equal to zero.
