HEAT

IS THE FORM OF ENERGY THAT FLOWS BETWEEN TWO SAMPLES OF MATTER DUE TO THEIR DIFFERENCE IN TEMPERATURE.

HEAT TRANSFER

PROCESS WHEREBY HEAT WAVES FROM ONE BODY OR SUBSTANCE TO ANOTHER BY RADIATION, CONDUCTION, OR CONVECTION.

RADIATION

The emission of energy as electromagnetic waves or as moving subatomic particles

CONDUCTION

The transfer of heat from one substance to another by direct contact.

CONVECTION

Convection is the movement of molecules within fluids (i.e. liquids, gases and rheids).

EXAMPLES OF RADIATION

COOKING MARSHMELLOWS AROUND A CAMPFIRE; SUN HEATING THE EARTH

EXAMPLES OF CONVECTION

BOILING WATER; HEATING A LARGE ROOM.

EXAMPLES OF CONDUCTION

TOUCHING A HOT STOVE; COOKING STEAK
