DEFINITION ON HEAT

  • Not a thing
  • A process of energy transfer
  • Transfer energy from one object (hotter w/ more energy)
  • to another (colder).

DEFINITION OF HEAT TRANSFER

  • Always move from hot to cold
  • Moves in 3 ways - convection, conduction, & radiation.

3 Methods Of Heat Transfer

  • Convection- trans. of heat through fluids (gases&liquids)
  • Conduction- transfer of heat through touching objects.
  • Radiation- transfer of heat through waves or rays.

CONVECTION

  • Ex. An iron-fluids & gases from the iron producing steam.
  • Ex. Boiling water - heat moves through H2O creating
  • convection currents.

CONDUCTION

  • Ex. Fish in a pan-heat from the pan cooks the
  • pancakes through touch.
  • Ex. A burger on a grill- the heat & fluid gases from
  • the grill heats up the burgers through touch.

RADIATION

  • Ex. Radiator- waves from the radiator heats the house
  • Ex. Microwave- rays from the microwave transfer heat
  • from it to the food.

Does the heat transfer method require movement of matter?

Does the method require matter at all? Yes it uses all matter.
