HISTORY OF HELIUM
Helium was discovered in 1868 by French Astronomer Pierre Janssen
Was named Helium after the Greek God of the sun, Helios
Was first thought to only exist in the sun
Was discovered on Earth when Uranium minerals were treated with acids
Was first observed in a solar eclipse when yellow spectral emission lines were seen

PROPERTIES OF HELIUM
Helium is a noble gas, which means it has a full outer shell of electrons
It is virtually unreactive
Nontoxic, colorless, odorless gas that is less soluble in water than certain gas
Condensation temperature is least of any known substances
Has high thermal conductivity allowing for use in lighting.

USES OF HELIUM
Used in balloons, weather to party balloons.
Used in some "neon" lights.
Used in extremely low temperature to achieve superconductivity state
Used for helium-oxygen mixtures for divers
Used as a shielding gas in welding

SOURCES
Found in the atmosphere as other elements radioactively decay.
Found in the pure form and used in the pure form
In the pure form, helium costs $5.20 per 100g
Is so unreactive, it is used to stabilize rocket fuel
Found all around the world.
