DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Senators and Representstives serve the people
  • They make laws for people
  • They do what they can to make sure their state excels
  • They look to make their area/state better financially
  • They look to make their area/state better physically

QUALIFICATIONS FOR A SENATOR

  • You must be at least 30 years of age
  • You must have been a citizen for at least 9 years
  • You must inhabit the state in which you wish to represent

  • You must be at least 25 years of age
  • You must have been a citizen for at least 7 years
  • You must inhabit the state in which you wish to represent

HOW THEY ARE ELECTED

  • Since the 17th amendment, voters in each state have selected senators during the Regukar November elections
  • For the senate the whole state votes for two people to represent the state
  • For the House of Representatives there are districts and each distric has its own
  • How many representatives each state has is based on the population

BENEFITS OF THE JOB

  • Both senators and representatives are paid $169,000
  • Speaker of the house receives $212,000, and floor leaders receive $183,500
  • They both have lifetime healthcare plans, and a $401,000 retirement plan
  • They receive special tax deductions
  • They receive Generous travel allowance and franking privelages

WAYS THEY CAN BE FIRED

  • In both houses 2/3 of the house may be expelled if you have done something wrong
  • Before being expelled many people resign from there position to save their reputation
