SYMPTOMS

  • Liver disease
  • Weakness and lethargy
  • Darkening of skin
  • Joint pain or infection of immune cells
  • Some people don't experience symptoms until the age of 40

SYMPTOMS CONTINUED

  • Lack of energy
  • Abdominal pain
  • Memory fog
  • Loss of sex drive
  • Irregular heart beats or heart flutters

DIAGNOSIS

  • Blood & genetic tests
  • Iron levels
  • Liver biopsy
  • Radiological/MRI methods
  • Ferritin levels

TREATMENTS

  • Therapeutic phlebotomy; blood removal
  • Diet
  • Avoids alcohol

RISKS

  • Mainly white people get this disease
  • 10% of people who have it are white
  • 5 out of every 1000 who are white have the condition
