He first came to Florida in 1878 because his wife was ill.Doctors said warm weather could help her.At the time he was 48 years old when he first visited Florida.
He did exactly five things to help the east coast of Florida's economy including railroads,hotels,a grain business,an oil company and he helped make water and power systems.
His parents were Elizabeth and Isaac Flagler along with his half-brother Dan Harkness.His first spouse was Mary Harkness who was Dan Harkness's sister.They were married from 1853 to1881.His second spouse was a lady named Mary Lily Kenan and they were married from 1901 to 1913.He had three children Jennie Louise,Carrie and Henry Flagler.
