HEPATITIS B

What Is Hepatitis B?

  • Hepatitis B is a virus that infects your liver, your liver can become inflamed, and in some cases can get cirrhosis of the liver.
  • Although you can get Hepatitis B by sharing a toothbursh(with an infected person) you will not get it by sharing food or drinks.
  • One third of the population has been infected with the Hepatitis B Virus.
  • Hepatitis B is one of the most contagious forms of viral hepatitis.

HOW DO YOU GET IT?

  • Coming in to contact with blood or a bodily fluid from someone who is already infected with it.
  • From mother to baby.
  • Sharing needles (used for drugs).
  • Sexual contact.
  • Get a tatto or piercing with a tool thats hasn't been sterilized.

SYMPTOMS

  • Abdominal pain
  • Dark urine, pale colored stools.
  • Yellowing of skin and white of your eyes (jaundice)
  • Weakness and fatigue
  • Fever, joint pain, and itching all over body.

Prevention Methods:
1. Use a condom when you have sex.
2. Wear latex gloves when touching blood.
3.Do not share needles.
4.Get the Hepatitis B Vaccine. (It's95% effective and lasts 20 years.)

WHO CAN GET IT?

  • In US. it is more common ages 25-44.
  • Adults
  • Anyone can get it.
  • Childbirth
  • Those who have more than one sex partner.
