THE EIGHTH LABOR

  • Heracles commanded to bring flesh eating horses of Diomedes to Tiryns.
  • Once he arrived there, he fed the Horses their own master, Diomedes.
  • He did this as punishment for teaching the horses to eat meat.
  • After he brought the mares back, they were dedicated to Hera.

ADMETUS AND ALCETIS

  • On his way to get the mares, Heracles traveled to Thessaly.
  • This place was owned by his friend, Admetus.
  • Admetus was honored by the deathless gods for being good and pious.

HOW IT WENT DOWN

  • Apollo was punished by Zeus for performing necromancy.
  • Apollo went to serve Admetus.
  • Apollo served his every need because Admetus was a boss.
  • Apollo helped Admetis marry Alcestis through a chariot race.
  • Apollo went to the fates to make Admetis immortal.

IMMORTALITY

  • To make him immortal someone had to be sacrificed in his place.
  • When the day came for Admetus to die he failed to find anyone to replace him in death.
  • Admetis never considered asking his wife, but she voluntarily killed herself for him.
  • Heracles showed up the day she died and after being inconsiderate, he tried to bring the wife back.
  • He challenged Hades to a wrestling match, and after winning she was ressurected.
