CHILD HOOD

• Cortez was born in 1485
• He was 18 when he sailed to Hispaniola
• Later that year he sailed to Cuba to help with the war
• And when the war was over he was mayor of Santiago

CONQUERING THE AZTEC

• In 1518 Cortes was ordered to go to
• Mexico and build a colony there but he
• Disobeyed orders and started a war
• In 1519 he executed the emperor.
• Then Spain sent 1,400 soldiers to arrest…

CONQUERING THE AZTEC CONTINUED

• Cortes for disobeying orders
• Cortes beat the army. But when
• He got to the capital they were
• Attacked by thousands of Aztecs
• And he won again and he got a lot of gold

AFTER THE AZTEC

• Cortes remained in Mexico and
• Made a treaty with the Indians
• And he explored to lower California
• And fought the pirates of Algiers
• In the same year he fought the Mayan
