FACTS

  • Cortes traveled to Mexico with 600 men, 20 horses and 10 small cannons.
  • It took Cortes two years to conquer Mexico.
  • Cortes and his men were disgusted when they found out that the Aztecs sacrificed humans to their gods.

  • In 1536 Cortes led an expedition that discovered Baja, California
  • Cortes retired from a soldier's life in 1541. He lived in luxury in Spain until his death in 1547
