He sailed for the Spanish but later he traveled to Peru as part of Pizarro's expedition.

He was looking for the Mississippi River to cross it to be the first European to cross the Mississippi River.

Hernando de soto is famous for helping to defeat the inca empire and for leading the first European expedition to reach the Mississippi River.

Their exploration was on May 8, 1541.
