CHARACTERISTICS

  • Simplex 2 is very common out of the 8 known types
  • It infects almost all human ectodermic cells
  • Can lead to numerous complications with other diseases
  • Targets mucoepithelia cells and take their latency period
  • It does not have an envelope so it remains dormant

OTHER CHARACTERISTICS

  • Lesions around the mouth or genitals are common in HSV 2
  • Along with HSV2 you can get HSV1
  • After infected, it remains in neural tissue but extends away from the cells central nerve
  • Therefore it finds a place to stay without being lost

HOW IT IS CONTACTED

  • It can be spread by animals and other humans
  • Sypmtoms only show up in humans
  • HSV2 is caught through sexual intercourse
  • Open wounds are another passageway

HOW IT IS TREATED

  • Treatment will never terminate virus
  • Valtrex, famvir, denavir, and zovirax are medications to help with breakouts
  • Episodic therapy-take medication onset of symptoms
  • Suppressive therapy- taking antiviral medicine every day

PREVENTIVE MEASURES

  • Avoid contact with HSV2
  • Have good hygiene
  • Use water and soap when washing hands thoroughly
  • Do not have sexual intercourse or exchange bodily fluids with someone who has lesions
