WHAT IS HERPES?

  • Herpes is a virus
  • Herpes is caused by the herpesviridae pathogen

SYMPTOMS

  • Herpes will take about 2 - 14 days until symptoms appear.
  • Cold sores
  • Blisters
  • Pain in the genital region

SPREADING

  • Herpes is spread by:
  • Sexual Activity
  • Physical contact to the area

PREVENTION

  • Herpes can be prevented by:
  • Using latex condoms during sexual activity
  • Not having sex
  • Having a partner who has been testes for HSV and resulted negative

TREATMENT

  • There is no cure for herpes
  • There are medications to lower symptoms

HOW MANY PEOPLE HAVE HERPES?

  • In the US 16.2% of people have HSV 2
  • In the world 60% - 95% of people have HSV 1 and/or HSV 2
