1906--1969

Harry was a geology professor at Princeton University.

When he was in the navy he discovered he could map the ocean floor using sonar technology.

In 1962 he published a book with a theory of how the continents could
actually drift.

Hess stated that the oceans grew from their centers by having basalt ooze out and cover the old ocean floor.
