Housing

  • They used timber beams for their houses shaping.
  • Because their house was so big, they had many people living in it.
  • Until the reservation period, the Hidatsa lived in circular houses.

Traditions

  • They had a Sun Dance and a Nax Pike ceremony tradition.

Food

  • They didn't hunt mule deer, yet they hunted white-tailed deer.
  • Did they cook or dry?
  • The men hunted game, so the women stayed to raise crops.

Clothing

  • While women wore short tights, men wore long tights.

Daily Life

  • Although children had to learn the language of their mother, they still had to learn the alternate language.
  • Women did not raise tabacco, nor did they trap Eagles.

General Info.

  • They didn't have birth ceromonies, but they did have death ceromonies.
  • Since the Hidatsa tribe merged with the Mandan's tribe, they inter married.

Extra Info.

  • Whenever the smallpox hit, Hidatsa and Mandan's numbers dropped.
  • Before the smallpox epidimic, the Hidatsa's were very independent.
  • Since the Hidatsa and Mandan joined, their language was mixed and there were more people.
