Students and Attention Level:

  • Expectation announced: “Some of you may choose to chat, text or play on your devices. It’s your grade, not mine.”
  • Observed students sleeping or completely ignoring teacher during class. Teacher did not address it during class time in front of everyone as they were not disturbing others.

Classroom Management:

  • Extensive use of SmartBoard technology.
  • Games were incorporated into learning in ways that fit the personality of the class.
  • Scientific calculators available for anyone to use. Students even allowed to check them out to do homework in case they don’t have one of their own.

~ Desks organized in “pods” to encourage collaboration, communication, and stronger learning between students.
~ “Copying” addressed at beginning of year and hasn’t been an issue.
~ Teacher able to maneuver around room to reach each student much easier than walking between rows.
~ Layout provides ideal opportunity for test review using a rotation method.
