WHAT IS HINDUISM

• Hinduism is a major religion that a developed version of the Vedic culture
• This religion began in South Asia
• #This was a religion of the Aryans (noble people)
• #All of their philosophy, customs, and religion was recorded in the Vedas

FOUNDERS

• The Hindus believe that there was no founder, as they believe that Hinduism has been around forever
• #The creators of the religion were known as the Aryans
• #Their teachings were passed on by mouth throughout time

THE HINDU GODS

• 1.Brahma is the god of creation and thought to be the creator of the universe
• 2.Vishnu is the god of maintenance who will come down to earth in the form of a mortal to help people in need
• 3.Shiva is the god of destruction and is one of gods of trinity
• #The Hindus believe in recarnation
• #This means that where you will be on the social ladder bases on your actions in your past life

PLACE OF WORSHIP

• The Hindu people usually worship in a temple, or a mandir
• However some Hindus have home shrines that they worship
• Their most likely holiest place is the Ganges, where the Hindus wash to heal themselves
• Fun fact: a religious leader is called an acharya

CELEBRATIONS

• One of many Hinduism celebrations is the Holi
• This marks the coming of spring
• Another celebration includes the Dussehra
• This celebration is in September and marks the the god Rama's triumph over evil Ravana
• #Diwali is the festival of light. This comes in October and is the Hindu New Year

OTHER NOTES

• All beings have a soul
• Hinduism is the oldest religion today
• God is male and female
