  • The Aum is thought to "mystically embody the essence of the entire universe".
  • It is considered the most sacred sound in the universe.

FOLLOWERS

  • It claims to have 950 million followers worldwide.
  • It's followers make up 14% of the world population.
  • Is the worlds third largest religion.

FOUNDER

  • The founding of Hinduism can't be credited toward a certain individual.
  • It is thought to be a collection of different beliefs and systems.
  • It is a very extensive religion with many holy books, deities, etc.

HOLY BOOKS, PLACES, DAYS

  • One of the most important holy books in the Hindu religion is called the Vedas
  • The Vedas originally consisted of four mantras.
  • One of the most holy places in the Hindu religion is Varanasi, a famous ancient town.
  • One important day in the Hindu religion is Diwali, the Festival of Lights.
  • Diwali usually takes place during October or November and lasts for several days.

COUNTRY OF ORIGIN

  • Like many other aspects of Hinduism the specific details of its origin are unknown.
  • Although it is thought to be a conglomerate of thousands of Indian religions.
  • This religion is thought to have evolve somewhere around India in 1500 BCE.

MAIN BELIEFS

  • Samsara is the process of rebirth in the Hindu religion. It is a cycle with no certain start or finish.
  • Karma is the universal law that your actions while living will determine what kind of life you lead after this one.
  • Moksha is the release of the Samsara cycle. This liberation in achieved when you let go of your human attributed

  • Today Hinduism is recognized a the world's oldest organized religion.
  • It is known as the dominant religion in India, Nepal and many other countries.
  • In 2008 there were an estimated 1.2 million Hindus in America.
