GENOCIDE: The Holocaust
The holocaust was one of the largest genocides in the history of mankind.
From 1933 to 1945, 6 million Jews were slaughtered by the Nazis.
Almost 2/3 of the Jews in Europe were eliminated.
3.
Causes
This was caused by the horrible ideas of Hitler
He believed that the Jews were an inferior race, and that they should not live.
He got much of Germany to follow him in his beliefs.
4.
Results
The result of this was the near-complete extermination of Jews in Europe.
Jewish people were forced to move out of the continent
Communities were destroyed, entire cities demolished by the Nazis.
It completely changed the political and physical features of Europe
It changed Judaism from a common religion to a scarcely practiced one.
5.
Civil War: World War II
World War II was the bloodiest war in history.
More than 50 nations were involved in this war.
Over 20 million soldiers and 40 million civillians were killed
After 6 years, the allies eventually overtook the axis powers
They won the war and gave many people in prison camps freedom
6.
CAUSES/Countries Involved
The main causes were the Holocaust and Hitler wanting to gain control of all of Europe.
Some of the countries on the Allies side were the USA, the Soviet Union, and China
some on the Axis side were Germany, Japan, Italy, and Hungary.
7.
Results
This war greatly impacted the area.
There were 27 million people lost by the Soviet Union
All the Jews left in concentration camps were forced to leave the area
It changed the landcape; many cities were destroyed with bombs.
8.
Conflicts over ideas: north and South Korea
North and South Korea are countries that share a border, but are different.
In the Korean War, North Korea invaded the South multiple times
9.
Causes
South Korea has a right-wing government, and many freedoms.
North Korea has a dictatorship, and they have hardly any freedoms.
10.
Results
The result of this was the division of Korea into two seperate counrtries.
Now, the countries are completely different.
The division has caused a change in peoples' beliefs in the region.
Some people in North Korea believe in the government that they have
most people in the south do not think it is right
11.
Results
The cultures have split.
In South Korea, they are advancing and modernizing their way of life
in North Korea, they are not advancing at all.
12.
Oklahoma City bombing
One of the worst acts of terrorism in American history.
The Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in downtown Oklahoma City was destroyed by a truck bomb
Killed 168 people and injured more that 680 others
Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols were the two people convicted of this bombing
13.
Results
This event and the 9/11 attack changed the way that we travel
And it changed the amount of security in a given area.
Now, there are many restrictions on things that you can travel with
There is now much more security on important or large buildings.
The bombing also changed the physical landscape
