GREEN DEWITT

  • He was born in Lincoln County, Kentucky On Feb 12, 1787.
  • He died May 18, 1835.
  • His father moved his family to a Spanish Settlement.
  • At 18, he returned to Kentucky, and studied for two years at the college level.
  • In 1827, DeWitt joined Austin and De Leon in signing a peace treaty with the Karankawa

He was inspired by Moses Austin widely circulated success in obtaining a grant from the Spanish Government to establish a colony in Texas.

He moved from Kentucky to Texas and founded Dewitt's Colony. He also joined the St. Militia.
