  • Lived: 1386-1466
  • A sculptor and very influential italian artist
  • Actual name was Donato di Niccolo di Betto Bardi
  • Sculpted the statue of David

LEONARDO DA VINCI

  • Lived: 1452-1519
  • A masterful artist
  • Painted such works as "Mona Lisa"
  • Invented many machines, like a flying machine
  • Drew some of the first bone and muscle diagrams

MICHELANGELO

  • Lived: 1475-1564
  • A very famous Italian sculpture
  • Created the sculptures "David" and "Pieta"
  • Painted the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel
  • Designed the Medici Chapel and the Laurentian library

RAPHAEL

  • Lived: 1483-1520
  • Known for his representations of Mary
  • Works including the Sistine Mary
  • Taught to paint by his father, Giovanni Santi
  • Created design of chapel in Sant' Eligio degli Orefici

NICCOLÒ MACHIAVELLI

  • Lived: 1469-1527
  • Gave root to the term "Machiavellian" or "the ends justify the means"
  • Wrote Prince, a handbook for unmoral politicians
  • Book was condemned by Pope Clement VIII
