the policy of protecting the interests of native-born or established inhabitants against those of immigrants.
-Chinese and European immigrants.

Symbols- immigration sign, message dept.
Meaning- calling all Spanish immigrants job stealing scumbags
Action taking place- employees at message dept. are making a sign for immigrants telling them to leave
Agree/disagree- Americans would agree because they didn't like immigrants. Spanish would disagree because they wanted better opportunities

Symbols- European immigrants, NY, funnel
Meaning- wanting to change the immigration laws
Action- "present" Europeans pushing and shoving to get to the selection at Ellis island. "Proposed" wanting to have selection at the source
Agree/disagree- Americans agree. It helps with the overload of immigrants. Europeans disagree because they have a smaller chance of coming to US

Symbols- Scott's Exclusion Act, Uncle Sam, Chinese immigrants
Meaning- S.E.A prohibited Chinese laborers in the us from returning after leaving
Action- Uncle Sam trying to enforce the S.E.A but the Chinese are slipping though the cracks and making their way back in.
Agree/disagree- Americans agree because it's enforcing the law. Chinese disagree because it isn't fair

Meaning- fair play when Uncle Sam rejects China, China can reject Uncle Sam
Action- when Chinese immigrant tries to come to US, Uncle Sam kicks them away and vice versa
Agree/disagree- those both agree and disagree because it's fair play
