Introduction

  • The Enlightenment era occurred between the 1650's and 1780's. During the enlightenment western thought and culture was characterized by dramatic in science, philosophy, society, and politics

WHO ?

  • Jean -Jacques Rousseau
  • Rousseau was born June 1712 and died July 1778.
  • Rousseau influenced the French Revolution with his political philosophy as well as the development of modern political, sociological, and educational thought.

  • Rousseau's ideas were adopted even after his death by the likes of Robespierre and Saint-Just during the Reign of Terror

Who ?

  • Montesquieu was born January 18, 1689 and died February 10, 1755
  • Montesquieu's famous work the 'Spirit of the Laws " used scientific methods to make a close study of how governments were ran

Montesquieu..

  • Montesquieu identified 3 basic types of governments.
  • He believed that England's government had 3 branches, the executive, legislative, and judicial.
  • These three branches would govern in what is called a separation of powers; and creating a system of checks and balances

  • Montesquieu's ideas have influenced the modern day system of government ran in the US

John locke

  • John Locke was born in 1632 and died in 1704
  • John Locke was inspired by the struggles of the locals in England.
  • In Locke's work "The Two Treaties of Government" he explained how the governments are formed.

  • Locke believed that human beings lived in a state of equality and freedom

What ?

  • The age of Enlightenment also know as the age of reason influenced philosophers and local thinker.
  • The Enlightenment changed culture and intellectual forces in western Europe ; the Enlightenment emphasized reason, analysis, and individualism.

why

  • The Age of Reason was brought about because the people of Europe were tired of the monarchy having absolute control, and so the local thinkers brought about reforms and influenced the minds of many people and encouraged revolution.

When

  • The Enlightenment era began in Europe at around 1650, and after years of influencing the world later ended in the 1800'

Where

  • The Enlightenment era started in Western Europe.
  • The Enlightenment then spread across most of Eastern Europe

Enlightenment

  • The Enlightenment was a positive change modernizing philosophy, sociology, and educational thought. The Enlightenment era influenced future revolution and reforms to rid Europe of absolute monarchy. The enlightenment also influenced the Declaration of Rights of Man, The Declaration of Independence and the US constitution

Conclusion

  • In conclusion the Enlightenment influenced the minds of great philosophers and modernized the minds of many people and forced them to think for themselves.
