THESIS

  • Nelson Mandela took a stand for equality and went on the quest for freedom. This stand affected not only Mandela himself but his wife and everyone of South Africa. where he then came a long way from a prison cell to the presidency.
  • Mandela spent his young life fighting for the freedom of South Africa's black and colored population.

MANDELA AS A CHILD

CHAPTER ONE: BEFORE IT ALL

On the year 1918 July 18th Mandela was born with the name Rolihlahla. Mandela was born in a tiny Village named Mvezo in the Transkei a former British protectorate in the south.

He was the son of Gadla Henry mphakanyiswa.
His father was the chief of the thembu people, also a subdivision of the Xhosa nation.

Mandela then received his well known name, Nelson from his teacher at the age of seven

CHAPTER TWO THE BUILD UP

In 1948 the national party took power over South Africa and steps forward to construct the apartheid. A system of strict racial segregation and white domination.

After the English man invaded South Africa after the discover of diamonds the people of South Africa were then separated shortly after the rule was made.

The apartheid had a large impact on Mandela, just four years after Mandela started law practice with his partner Oliver Tambo. It was South Africa's first black law practice. But this was only just the beginning for Mandela had many other plans ahead.

CHAPTER3 BEFORE THE FIRST ACT

In 1938 Mandela attended the university of fort hare, a black institution. After just two years of attending Mandela was expelled for leading a student protest.

Mandela married Evelyn Ntoko mase in 1944. As a couple they bore 4 children together, but the couple were soon, shortly broke apart because of Mandelas political activities that put a strain on their relationship. The couple divorced in 1958

Four years before the apartheid was placed and the English men invaded Africa Mandela and other activist came together to form the African national congress youth league after becoming of disenchanted with the cautions approach of the older members of the A.N.C.

On December 5th the year of 1956 Mandela was arrested from his home and charged with treason with 155 others, for calling for a non racial state in South Africa. Midst trial of treason charges he married nomzamo Winifred madikizela which they bore two daughters together.

CLIMAX

CHAPTER 4 FINALS TO BEGINNING

The police fired on a demonstration in sharpeville, killing 69 people and wounding 181. After the shooting, the South African government banned all black political stripes including the A.N.C, groups and gatherings. Thousands were arrested.

After The A.N.C's members fled underground where they began plotting a campaign of direct attacks on the apartheid government. On march 29th 1961 Mandela and his co defendants were speared for the charge of treason. Mandela in fear of further risks fleas underground with the others.

AFFECT OF SHORT TERM

CHAPTER5

From 1961-1964
Many fights,raids, and protests proceeded and the rate continued to progress. On June 12th 1964 Mandela was sentenced to life along with 7 others where he spent 18 years of his life alone.

Jun 16th 1976 another protest was then took again to the streets by thousands of students that oppose the use of Afrikaans as the language of instruction in black schools.once again the police set fire on protesters setting off further months of endless violence that will leave more than 570 people dead this was considered a turning point in the history of black resistance to the apartheid.

March 28 1982 Mandela was then moved from isolated prison. 3 years later on February 10th 1985 the president of South Africa p.w. Botha offered to free Mandela if he renounces violence which Mandela refused, he wanted the apartheid dismantled first.

Dec 7th 1988 Mandela once again transferred to another prison

A year later on July 5th 1989 Mandela met up with the South African president where they talked about his release. Shortly after Mandela was soon released on oct 15th 1989 with 70 others for trial.

THE BAN BEING LIFTED

CHAPTER6

Feb 2nd 1990 the ban was lifted from A.N.C.
Feb 1990 Mandela was freed.
And on oct 15 1993 Mandela received the novel prize.
