PRESENTATION OUTLINE

CHEROKEE TRIBE

The Cherokees have gone by several names which have all meant the same thing. They have gone by aniyvwiya, anigaduwagi, and kituwah which all mean "Real People"

In 1820, over 7,000 Cherokees lived in what is now present day western California.

In 1830, the Indian removal act was passed. This forced Cherokees to move into what is now present day Oklahoma in 1838 (Indian Territory)

Since the earliest contact with Europeans in the 16th century, Cherokees have been identified as the most cultural and socially advanced of the Native Tribes.

Cherokees lived in log cabins they created rather that tee pees.
