THE BATTLE OF FORT SUMTER

• April 12-13, 1865
• The Battle of Fort Sumter started the Civil War
• The Union surrendered because of a shortage of food and supplies
• Not a single person died during the battle
• The South wanted Fort Sumter because it protected the waterway to the Atlantic Ocean

BATTLE OF GETTYSBURG

• July 1-3, 1863
• The Battle was fought there because of the area road system
• The Battle of Gettysburg was the costliest battle of The Civil War
• 9 Generals were killed during the battle
• Between 46,000-51,000 soldiers were casualities during the three day period.

BATTLE OF SHILOH

• April 6-7, 1862
• 23,000 Causalities over the two day battlr
• Grant lead an offensive that broke the Confederate line
• Over 70,000 men fought at Shiloh
• The Artillery of the Union was referred to as the "Hornets Nest"

BATTLE OF BULL RUN

• July 21, 1861
• First major land battle of Virignia
• General Thomas Jackson earned his nickname "Stonewall"
• The defend of Matthews Hill, caused a major Union retreat to Washington

BATTLE OF ANTIETAM

• September 17, 1862
• 38,000 soldiers fought here
• The Union was trying to clear The South's army out of Maryland
• Lee's men were overwhelmed at Burnside's bridge, and forced to retreat to Virginia

• He had one of the most famous speeches ever
• It was called the Gettysburg Address

• It inspired northeners to take a stand against slavery.
• Her father was a relgious leader in Connecticut.

• She was an Abolitionist.

• He was the commanding general for the northern army
• Graduated westpojnt in 1847

• Raided Harper's Ferry Armory
• Was an Abolitionist
• Was hanged for raiding Harper's Ferry

• 15th president of the U.S.
• He was considered the worst president

NAT TURNER

• Former slave that ran the underground railroad
• He was an abolitionist

CHARLES SUMTER

• Got beaten by a cane by Preston Brooks
• He was a SC senate

STONEWALL JACKSON

• He was a confederate general
• He was considered the best cofederate general
• He got killed by friendly fire

EMANCIPATION PROCLOMARION

• Freed all african american slaves in the south
• Was highly contraversial by Northern abolitionists

GETTYSBURG ADDRESS

• Speech given by abraham lincoln
• Was 267 words long
• Many people did not like the speech because of the length
• There is only one picture taken of him at the speech
