PRESENTATION OUTLINE

BATTLE OF THE PLAINS OF ABRAHAM

WHAT HAPPENED?

General Wolfe led the British up the cliffs

The French charged

The British were better fighters because they were more organized

The British fired an organized volley

Dozens of French died. The rest retreated.

Both the French and the British generals died.

The French surrendered Québec City to the British

INQUIRY QUESTION

How would a change in leaders effect the British and the French

FINDINGS

FINDINGS

  • General Jeffrey Amherst was the new British commander
  • The chevalier de Lévis was the new French general
  • This time the French army defeated the British in the same battlefield
  • Lévis surrounded Québec City

FINDINGS

  • Additional British forces arrived in the St. Lawrence River, so no additional French forces could help Lévis
  • Lévis didn't think he could win so he left
  • The French army went back to Montréal, and were forced to surrender to Amherst
  • The British forces and people held in Québec City were now free

WHY WAS THIS BATTLE IMPORTANT?

If the French won the battle we might all be speaking French right now
