History

  • HIV/AIDS started in Africa
  • It started in the early 1900's
  • It first began to spread in Guinea-Bissua  
  • It spread rapidly because at the time they didnt have a cure
  • It affects millions of peoples lives daily

How It affects kids & orphans

  • Many children are orphaned in Africa because their parents died from AIDS
  • In South Africa alone 2,500,000 kids don't have parents due to HIV/AIDS
  • Kids orphaned from AIDS often miss out on educational oppurtunities

how it spreads

  • Monkeys spread the disease to humans in some parts of Africa
  • AIDS can be spread by needles and razors
  • People in Africa can get AIDS by eating various types of meats by monkeys

antiretrovirals

  • Antiretrovirals are used to treat AIDS
  • Antiretrovirals is expanding for children so more can be saved from HIV/AID
  • This treatment is very expensive, it costs over $600
  • Magic Johnson got HIV/AIDS and used antiretrovirals to cure it

ECONOMIC IMPACT

  • 1/3 of the population is infected with HIV/AIDS 
  • AIDS leaves few people to actually engage in the African workforce
  • The cost of AIDS also puts a dent in the economic impact 
  • It is hard to keep a buisness running when workers are dying of HIV/AIDS
