LIFE IN THE JUNGLE

  • Most families didn't have very mush food for themselfs
  • Many died of illness, starvation or the Communists
  • Most Hmong families hid in the jungle in hope to go back home

THE WAR ENDS

  • The USA lost to the Vietnam
  • When the USA withdrew, the communists took over

THE KILLING CONTINUES

  • The hmong secret army was killed
  • Some Hmong surrender to the communists

CROSSING THE MEKONG RIVER

  • Thousands of Hmong people tryed to cross
  • It was hard to cross with the rushing water

DEATH IN THE WATER

  • The communists shot anyone they saw trying to cross

THE REFUGEE CAMPS

  • The Hmong that escaped were put in onr of the camps
  • One of the biggest camps had more than 45,000 Hmong
  • Ban Vinai had more things then other refugee camps

LIVING CONDITIONS

  • Most camps had at least 20 families at one time
  • Some families had room for a small garden

FAMILY IS IMPORTANT

  • The Hmong tried to keep the same traditions

THE HMONG CLANS

  • Some of the main clans were colors
  • They tried to wear homemade clothing to show what clan they were in

NO WRITTEN LANGUAGE

  • The Hmong wanted to record what happened to them
  • They say that they had a written language but over time they lost it

THE STORYCLOTHS

  • They began to stitch the stories of what happened into cloth
  • Some storycloths showed diffrent thing like them fleeing
  • Some workers bought them and sent them to there home
  • They helped the Hmong tell people there history
  • Many hmong made storycloths when they were waiting to go to the USA
