HMS BEAGLE

HMS Beagle was a Cherokee-class 10-gun brig-sloop of the Royal Navy.

The rich variety of animal and plant species that Darwin saw on the voyage on the Beagle led him to develop his theory of 'evolution by natural selection'.

THE TRIP

  • The beagle sailed across the Atlantic Ocean and around the coasts of southern

  • The crew had 27 people on the Ship
  • Darwin's 1st discovering was a horizontal white band of shells within
  • A cliff face along the shoreline of Porto Praya
  • The beagle crossed the equator and 4 days later at the island of Fernado de Noronha
