The setting takes place in a dried up land in Texas.
One day Stanley is just walking down the street when a famous baseball players shoes fall right out of the sky, they smelled kinda funny so he started running to his dad. His dad has been trying to find a cure for foot odor and thinks he's on the verge of a breakthrough. Just then Stanley was caught running with the shoes and got sent to court, since his family couldn't afford a lawyer they had to choose between jail or Camp Green Lake.
Stanley chose camp Green Lake where he is assigned to dig holes for discipline, 5 feet deep and 5 feet wide. He always wanted to go to a camp he made up that he called "Camp Fun & Games" but that was pretty hard considering he had to dig a hole from sunrise to sunset in the hot weather in Texas. Things start to get better with Stanley once the campers give him his own nickname Caveman. Will Stanley survive the mean camp councilors and the killer yellow spotted lizards?
Stanley Yelnats
Stanley is a nice kid he just tends to be at the wrong place at the wrong time, every time something goes wrong he blames it on his pig stealing no good dirty rotten great great grandfather because of a curse that has been running in the family for a long long time. He got himself into this mess, can stanley get out of it?
Hector Zeroni
Hector is a very quiet person who was left on the streets before he got sent to Camp Green Lake, his Mom used to take him to Laney Park and would say I'll be right back but one day she didn't come back so he would sleep in a tunnel nearby and pretend he was a Boy Scout until something he did that he didn't know was bad got him sent to Camp Green Lake, there people call him Zero because he doesn't talk much and he doesn't like answering dumb question they ask there.
Rex Washburn
Rex Washburn a.k.a X-Ray has been at Camp Green Lake the longest and knows the most, he is also the most superior camper at Camp Green Lake, he wears glasses but most of the time their half covered in dirt but he claims he can see through things and thats why people call him X-Ray
In my opinion I think Holes is a great book for all ages and has a lot of all aspects of books you want such as: laughs, scares, adventure, action, and drama. The thing I like about holes is that I can vision it, word by word. Some books I can't picture that well but in this book it was really clear and got me engaged in the book and to keep reading it, it is also a very attaching book like most of them and at the end of the chapter I want to see what happens in the next one.
