THE EXPERIMENT

• First Rahe and Holmes selected 5,000 people already hospitalized to interview
• They then asked questions on series of life events, such as death of a spouse

THE EXPERIMENT

• They made a scale of stress based on these life events and compared it to their chances of becoming ill

RESULTS

• Rahe and Holmes found that people with high dress levels had a higher chance of becoming ill
